Anjuman Khairul Islam's POONA COLLEGE OF ARTS, SCIENCE & COMMERCE, PUNE ( Religious and Linguistic Minority Educational Institution ) THE INSTITUTION The POONA college of Arts Science & commerce was founded in the year 1970 by the Anjuman Khairul Islam (A.K.I.) Mumbai and is affiliated to the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) at the Junior College level and to the University of Pune at the Senior College level. In a short period of 40Years, the College has grown into a full fledged degree college with P. G. centers in Electronics, Computer Science, Organic Chemistry, Zoology, English, Economics, Urdu and Commerce. The College proudly boasts of having full fledged University Recognised Research centers in Commerce, Chemistry & Economics with Research Guides in the these subjects. The College is also planning to have research centres in Urdu and English very shortly. It is a matter of pride that the College also has University approved research guides in the subjects of English, Bio-mathematics, Geology Commerce, Economics, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Botany and Bio-Informatics. The Poona College is also the first College in Pune to be selected by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi for the introduction of Computer Maintenance course at the degree level as a part of the UGC program "Vocationalization of First Degree Education" from the academic year 1994-95. The college also imparts teaching for Vocational course of Electronics and Information Technology at the Junior College level. The College has been accredited by NAAC and was awarded 'A' Grade in May 2004. The Institute is fully equipped with modern infra structural facilities and has top class faculty members. Due to the dedication of highly qualified staff, the strength of the college has reached around 6500 students, of which 3500 are in the Senior College. The University and Board Examination results speak well of the high degree of academic excellence attained by the students who are equally proficient in co- curricular activities in which they take keen interest. Stress is laid on character building and all round development of the student's personality. Students are also encouraged to take active part in sports and they have made good progress in this field too. Special attention is paid to the students coming from economically backward and other backward classes as well as scheduled castes and tribes. (Std XII) Examination (Arts/Science/Commerce) of the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education or an equivalent examination of any other statutory Board or University with the subjects mentioned below are eligible for admission to the first year of the respective Degree Courses. (Computer Science) a) Higher Secondary School (10+2) Level Examination in Science with Mathematics. Or b) Three Years Diploma Course, after SSC IMPORTANT NOTE : For Poona College Students: 1. The students passing XII th standard, Arts, Science and Commerce at the H. S. C. Examination held in October 2009 and March 2010 will be admitted first in F.Y.B.A./F. YB. Sc. and F. Y. B.Com. respectively against the seats reserve for them as per the schedule that will be notified immediately after the declaration of H. S. C. Result. 2. If Poona College students fail to complete admission formalities and pay the course fees within stipulated time as per schedule, they loose their claim on seats reserved for them and the seats rendered so vacant will be filled in by admitting students from other than Poona College. The college will not be held responsible for any academic and / or financial loss to the students arising on account of this. For Other Than Poona College Students : 1. After reserving seats for Poona College students, the remaining seats will be filled in by admitting the students from other colleges/Boards strictly on the basis of merit 2. Poona College being Minority Educational Institution, 50% of the seats available to the students other than Poona College, will be reserved for Indian students belonging to the Muslim Community. 3. The admission schedule for the student other than Poona College, will be notified immediately after the declaration of H.S.C Result. The students should follow the schedule and carefully read the college notice board for issue and submission of admission forms, declaration of merit list, payment of course fees, etc. The students who will fail to pay the course fee within stipulated time will forfeit their claims on the seat and the seats rendered vacant will be filled in by admitting the students from the waiting list. Admission to F.Y.B.Sc. (Computer Science), F.Y.B.B.A. & F.Y.B.C.A. Admissions to F.Y.B.Sc. (Computer Science), F.Y.B.B.A. & F.Y.B.C.A. will be granted purely on merit basis. There is no special quota or reserved seats for Poona College students for these courses. Students should carefully read the college notice board for issue and submission of admission forms, declaration of merit list, Payment of course fees and other details instructions regarding admission to these courses. Admission After Cut-off Date: The cut-off date would be notified and the admission to vacant seats will be made strictly as per the schedule on the basis of merit. However after the cut-off date is over, all lists regarding admission will stand cancelled and the vacant seats will be filled in at the discretion of the college authority and no complaints will be entertained in this regard. Important note: In case of grievances /complaints regarding admission, the students concerned are advised to contact the principal for redressal and his decision will be final. B) Second Year (S.Y.) & Third Year (T.Y.) Degree Course : S.Y.B.A. / S.Y.B.Sc. /S.Y. B.Com. /S.Y.B.Sc. ( Computer Science) / S.Y.B.B.A. & S.Y.B.C.A. &T.Y.B.A. /T.Y.B.Sc. / T.Y.B.Com. /T.Y.B.Sc. ADMISSION PROCEDURE 1. Application for admission to the college should be made on a prescribed admission form by all the students including those who were in this college during the previous year. This is done immediately after the declaration of the results of the pertinent examination of the previous year. The prescribed form and prospectus can be had from the college office either personally or by post. For obtaining it by post, a request should be sent to the college at the following address :The Principal, AKI's Poona College of Arts Science & Commerce, PuneCamp, Pune-411001 (India). The request Should be accompanied by Indian Postal Order of RS-150/- in favour of Principal, Poona College payable at Pune, The name of the course to which admission is sought should be clearly mentioned in the request letter The admission form, duly completed in all respects and accompanied by requisite documents should be submitted/sent to the college on or before the last date notified by the college. The list of requisite documents to be attached to the admission form is described in the next section. The admission forms which are incomplete or incorrectly filled or submitted late will be summarily rejected. Out of the total available seats for each course. 50% seats will be reserved for the students belonging to Muslim minority Community. The admission form will be scrutinized by the College Office and signed by the appropriate authorities and the merit list will be drawn from amongst all the applicants. The grant of admission to the course rests solely with the College/ University Authorities. The students whose names have appeared in the merit list will have to confirm their admission by paying the prescribed fees at the cash counter of the college immediately. Failure to do so will result in forfeiture of his/her claim for admission and the seat will be allotted to those on waiting List. The fees receipt obtained after paying the fees should be carefully preserved by the student. The admission granted by the college is provisional, until it is confirmed by the university. For admission to senior college classes, preference will be given to students who have passed the qualifying examination from our college.
