NEWSLETTER July / August 2010 Bishops’ page Rocky Mountain IPHC Ministries Message to the Rocky Mountain IPHC Conference from Bishop Larry Herrera Bishop Larry & June Herrera Information... C Missions Throughout our lifetime we will experience many firsts: our first kiss, our first Job, our first car, etc. These firsts bring with them an exhilaration of anticipation and hope. The exhilaration on my part began when Bishop Talmadge Gardner asked me to address the congregation after being elected the Conference Superintendent. I was, it seemed, breathless - taken aback by the mere fact that God would use me to lead his people. The Rocky Mountain Conference Executive Council has had its first meeting; as I am writ- ing this, we are gearing up for our first junior and senior camps. I welcome all of these firsts because I know that they are the beginnings of something greater. I am by no means a rookie when it comes to church matters, but very much a greenhorn as it pertains to conference issues, so I will quote Bishop Carpenter, “HELP!” Evangelism We look forward with great anticipation and hope. Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give Hispanic Ministries you an expected end” (kjv - italics mine). It is my most sincere desire that every lay person, local, licensed and ordained minister in the Rocky Mountain Conference is looking toward the future with great anticipation. God told Jeremiah that he would give him an expected end. I wholeheartedly believe that the Lord has positioned our conference for a massive break- Discipleship Ministries through throughout Colorado and the Rocky Mountain region. He has the right people in the right place for the right time for an expected end. Dr. Brett Cooper, Asst. Superintendent, has been assigned the EVUSA portfolio. Pastor Robert Lopez has been assigned the Hispanic Ministries portfolio. Pastor Jake Ishmael has been as- signed the Discipleship portfolio. Pastor Tyler Clark has been assigned the Conference Missions Director (CMD) portfolio. Pastor Chris Roche has been assigned the Conference Youth Pastor portfolio. Rev. Laura Clark has been assigned the Conference Women’s Director portfolio. The Conference Men’s Director position has been assigned to Rev. Joe Sanchez. Please continue to pray for your leadership as we work to build the kingdom by strengthening the local church. As I conclude this initial newsletter address, I would like to say thank you to our former Bishop, Paul Clark and his lovely wife, Verna for being amazing leaders, wonderful mentors and most of all true friends. “The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace” (kjv). June and I do not seek to fill your shoes, but we will wear the shoes and walk in the path that God has for us. Thank you! ¡Gracias! Rocky Mountain Annual Conference Highlights International Pentecostal Holiness Church, Executive Director Discipleship Ministries The following is an excerpt of the report given by Bishop Tal Gardner to the Council of Bishops regarding the Rocky Mountain Annual conference . It was my privilege to serve as the presiding officer for the ROCKY MOUNTAIN QUADRENNIAL CONFERENCE Session, June 5, 2010. This Conference proved to be a momentous occasion and should be cele- brated as a significant breakthrough for the IPHC in that, for the first time, a historically traditional Anglo Conference elected an ethnic ministry leader, Bishop Larry Herrera, to serve as its Conference Superintendent. This Conference marked the conclusion of Paul and Verna Clark’s service and tenure as Conference Superintendent. They had collectively decided that they would officially retire from full-time ministry service after hav- ing served as Conference Superintendent for 23 years, 16 of those being consecutive. For most of their tenure as superintendent, they also pas- tored a church. On Thursday Evening, Paul preached his farewell message to a packed house – maybe the largest crowd we had. His closing challenge to those in attendance was posed around the question, “Are you going to be a Wall-Builder or a Bridge-Builder”? If you have visited Rocky Moun- tain recently, you very quickly discern that Paul has mastered the craft of Bridge Building! It was a powerful message. The Thursday evening service also celebrated the graduation of thirty-four (34) students from Covenant Bible College & Seminary. Dr. Brett Cooper directs this min- istry/ministerial training program for the Rocky Mountain Conference. The Friday evening service had two objectives; first, Ministerial Creden- tialing for the Local Church Minister’s Certificate, License and Ordina- tion candidates, and secondly, a well-coordinated service honoring the life and ministry legacy of Paul and Verna Clark. Miraculously we were able to accomplish both objectives! The service honoring the Clark’s was one of the most well-planned services of this nature that I have attended. We laughed, cried and reminisced as a family. Bishop Herrera and the Conference Executive Council are to be commended for the way they honored Paul and Verna. The Quadrennial Conference Session was concluded on Saturday. Paul’s, State of the Conference Report was delivered with emotion, passion and hope for the future! The Conference in session elected the following persons as Executive Council members: Bishop Larry Herrera, Superintendent [1st Ballot – 76% vote] Dr. Brett Cooper , Assistant Superintendent Tyler Clark, Treasurer [Paul & Verna’s son] Jake Ishmael, Executive Council Member Robert Lopez, Executive Council Member Presiding Officers Report Bishop Talmadge Gardner, Joshua Pishcura, Tauni Winter and Phillip Harris were memorialized by Bishop Clark as part of the Memoirs Committee Report. These three young Master’s Commission Students were tragically killed in an automobile ac- cident late last year while on a Ministry assignment/mission. The IPHC is deeply in-debted to Paul and Verna for their sacrificial ser- vice in the Rocky Mountain Conference. I have not seen an integration of quality young leaders in any of our Conferences that resembles what is happening in the Rocky Mountain Conference. This may become Paul’s ministry legacy in Rocky Mountain. Paul’s personal ability to develop relationships is a model for 21st Century ministry leadership success. I was also very impressed at how Paul handled the transference of the office of Conference Superintendent. He set Bishop Herrera up to succeed! May God’s GRACE saturate this next season of service for Paul and Verna and may they be able to celebrate their ministry legacy together for many years - they are special gifts! A NIGHT TO REMEMBER I t was an honor as the Presiding Officer to recognize the following con- ference attendees: Rev. Clifford and Ruth Sampier, former Conference Superintendent and GBA Member; Rev. Stephen Hanscom, Vice-Presi- dent of Lending Services, IPHC Extension Loan Fund; Rev. Brian and Carol Burgess, Former IPHC Missionaries to South Africa and Zambia; Rev. Jake and Jill Ishmael, Conference Discipleship Ministries Director and Director of Ascend Masters Commission. Verna and I wish to express our thanks to all of you for your thoughtfulness and generosity - your gifts and kind words will always be remembered by us. Friday evening at conference will be a night we will always cherish. Many blessings on you and this conference. We look forward to the future with all of you. We know that God has great things in store for the Rocky Mountain conference. We love you all! Pastor Paul & Verna Clark To the Conference Executive Council, Churches, Pastors and friends:

Missions and Evangelism Special GO Offering taken the Friday night of Conference - Total amount $1,100.00 YOU can still give! Ultimately, the goal of mobilization is to lead the church toward the purpose of glorifying God! Creating a dynamic, comprehensive, year-round mis- sion focus in your church sounds like an exciting pos- sibility, don’t you think? That process is exactly what Church Mobilization is all about. Someone has to be- gin. Why not you? Why not today? Developing an overall Mobilization program presents a unique kind of challenge. How does a local church de- velop a comprehensive yet personalized mission strat- egy that involves and enthusiastically excites everyone in the congregation? World Mission Ministries has a dynamic teaching aid, the Harvest Connection Series. We believe this training course will be genuinely helpful in guiding your church toward becoming a mobilized church. It doesn’t contain a magnificent secret formula and no abracadabra magic words. This series is not another church growth program designed to promote the latest “in” ministry fad. It is a practical resource for pastors and church leaders who want to see their congregation bathed in God’s supernatural power and experience the breathe of new life into every area of ministry. The principles taught in this series will give you the tools necessary to become a world impacting mobilized church. Our sincere desire is to provide the local church with a strong biblical basis for leading their church in pursuit of an increased awareness and higher level of obedience to the Great Commission. It’s the mandate Jesus gave His church moments before He ascended to heav- en. It’s also the annual IPHC offering to reach the nations. As such, it’s an incredible way you can participate in going into all the world to share the Good News with every creature, baptizing those who believe. Global Outreach (GO): Why support Global Outreach? When you give to GO, you give to reach the 300 million people who live in the United States and the more than 6 billion who live elsewhere. Your gift to Global Outreach goes to reach the nations. It’s flexible. Other missions offer- ings fund the sending of missionaries and specific projects, but Global Out- reach’s unique role is to be the flexible offering that goes where it is needed most. It’s fast. When a door on the field opens, Global Outreach can help provide immediately. The availability of funds helps ensure souls that can be won won’t be lost because of a lack of access to funds. It’s fruitful. Gifts to Global Outreach make ministries chosen to receive project funds more fruitful by supplying buildings, materials, and other resources needed to lead people to Christ. How is Global Outreach spent? 75% of the GO offering is disbursed by World Missions Ministries to mis- sionaries and national workers for ministry projects, churches, outreaches, developing new works, and promotion. 25% of the GO offering is used by Evangelism USA to plant and develop churches in America.
